Graiul Romanesc Scholarship Winners 2010
The Romanian Beneficial and Cultural Society is pleased to present its 2010 scholarships to 3 very deserving young students of Romanian ancestry. Loredana Belciug, Kristin Plantus and Lavinia Butuza are all first year students at the University of Windsor. After enjoying much success in their earlier schooling, all 3 have chosen to dedicate their efforts to higher education and future careers.
All 3 candidates are intelligent, hard working students. We wish them well in all their future endeavours.

Loredana Belciug
- Loredana is a graduate of St. Anne Secondary School where she distinguished herself with high marks.
She is now enrolled at the University of Windsor studying Early Childhood Education.
- Loredana was born in Petrosani Romania and came to Canada with her family 10 years ago.
She has volunteered in the community with the Downtown Mission and the Terry Fox Run.
She has also been active with her Sunday School and Christmas choir performances.
- Loredana has 3 sisters who are also attending the University of Windsor and a brother in College.
- After graduating she would like to be a teacher.

Kristin Plantus
- Kristin graduated from Kennedy Secondary School where she enjoyed excellent academic success.
She is now at the University of Windsor having just started in the Nursing program.

Kristin was born in Windsor. Her grandparents’ families came from Bucovina in the 1930’s and their descendants have been involved with the Romanian Church and in many Romanian Community Activities for over 60 years. Kristin has volunteered her services with younger children and has worked at a Child Care Centre.

She has 2 sisters who are also attending the University of Windsor.

After graduating Kristin would like to become a nurse.

Lavinia Butuza
- Lavinia graduated from St. Joseph Secondary School as one of the group of top academic students.
She is now at the University of Windsor studying Drama.

Lavinia was born in Satu Mare, Romania and came to Canada when she was 9 years old.
She has been involved with dance performances and acting performances for several years.
She has also been involved in a leadership program.

Lavinia is working on a degree in Dramatic Arts.
